It’s here, it’s here! It’s finally Tomato Art Fest time again in Nashville. If photos from our adventures at Tomato Fest last year are any indication, you should head over to Five Points in East Nashville to enjoy all the festivities. Plus, this festival is a tradition people have come to town for (in exponentially increasing crowds) since 2004.
The heart of the festival is the Art and Invention Gallery, whose owners love and respect the tomato. The first 2004 get together was to showcase art depicting late summer tomatoes, and it has blown up since then. Now the fest is a two day event – concerts and pre-fest activities Friday to everything under the sun on Saturday.
On Saturday, you can catch the crowning of the Tomato Fest King and Queen (best costumes), the 5k, a parade full of decorated floats, a tomato-themed pet fashion show, a beautiful tomato competition, and even a redhead competition. Seriously anything and everything goes. Competitions not your thing? The fest still has plenty for you.
For Tomato Fest, most of the streets fanning out from the Five Points area are blocked off so that pedestrians rule the streets. You’ll find food trucks, tshirt creators like DCXV, artists, you name it, all around. The bars and restaurants around Five Points are open all day, so that you get a little bonus – you can take your drink into the street!
Tomato Fest is for every age and every personal interest. We try to make the fest every year – it gets better each time! We’ll be there early on Saturday to beat the heat. See you there!
