Little Donkey Nashville

meaty burrito & la concoccion

Welcome to Nashville, Little Donkey! Coming to Nashville from Birmingham, Little Donkey it’s not just your average Mexican food joint. We visited this Germantown newbie on opening week and walked away with full bellies and an amazing first impression.

The atmosphere is fun and lively with an open kitchen and friendly servers, and the food came out fast even with the opening week crowds. Order at the front counter and take your number card to the table of your choosing. And if you forget to order a drink at the counter, don’t worry – servers will come to your table with iPads to take your order.

Of the many tequila drinks we sampled (hello, margs!), the Tequila Mockingbird was the star. It was a refreshing balance of pineapple, cardamom, agave, lime juice, and a touch of serrano.

We went with a big group, so we were able to sample almost every category on the menu. Start with the classics – guacamole and queso combo with an extra serving of salsa. The guac was flavorful without too much onion, and the queso was warm and gooey perfection.

For the main dish, we tried the veggie quesadilla (full of zucchini, tomatoes, you name it) with chipotle cream, a meaty burrito, and a plate full of tacos. We rounded out our meal with another order of salsa and La Concoccion on the side – a cast iron crock full of rice, beans, cotija cheese, and topped with runny egg.

As fast as the food came out, we ate it even faster! Add Little Donkey to your need to try list – it lives up to the hype.
