From August, 2015

Our August Fitness Friday feature is one of our new favorite ways to break a sweat in Nashville – GetFit615. If you haven’t tried a workout here yet, you are missing out on one of the best and most inspirational workouts in town! Located below another Fitness Friday favorite, Shakti Yoga, GetFit615 offers a supportive, fun workout…

Downtown Antique Mall

One of our favorite things to do on a lazy day is to wander through the Downtown Antiques Mall. This place is packed to the gills with ceramics, jewelry, furniture, decor – you name it, they’ve got it. Turn 360 degrees, and you’ll see a velvet Elvis painting, a stuffed and mounted bobcat, and old-timey selzer bottles. This place will keep you guessing.

Love Peace & Pho

Love Peace Pho adds a bright new face to 8th Avenue, situated on the same side as 8th and Roast and across from Zanies (posts coming soon!). The menu features Vietnamese classics with a heavy focus on vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes. You’ll definitely fall in love with Love Peace Pho once you try it for yourself – we know we did!

Virago offers Asian-fusion dishes with an upscale flare. Their combination of ambiance and interesting dishes earned them a spot in Open Table’s Top 100 Hot Spots in America list. It would be hard to argue with the more than 5 million reviews collected and reviewed by Open Table in the past year to create the list – Virago is definitely doing something right!

Rolf & Daughters

If it’s your first visit to RAD, definitely order at least one of the pasta dishes. The housemade squid ink pasta is a menu staple – lightly salted squid ink pasta paired with octopus and n’duja, topped with breadcrumbs. On our most recent visit, we also ordered the rigatoni with lamb pancetta and the vegetarian pasta option – fresh corn and peas in a creamy sauce, the perfect light pasta dish for a warm summer night. It’s no surprise that RAD has racked up a number of accolades, including the Nashville Scene’s Reader’s Choice Best Restaurant in the Best of 2014 poll and the #3 Best New Restaurant in America by Bon Appetite in 2013.

Sky Blue Cafe

Sky Blue Cafe’s slogan is “breakfast all day everyday.” We can’t argue with that! Sky Blue is open 7 days a week from 7:00-4:00, so they’re ready for you whenever your breakfast craving kicks in! Feeling extra hungry? Try the stuffed french toast pancakes – a huge portion of french toast pancakes, eggs, bacon, and cheese all in one dish.

Thistle Farms

During the Thistle Farms tour you’ll learn about how the Magdalene women and their fellow Thistle Farmers create their products by hand and use ingredients that are as good for the earth as they are for your body. You can find Thistle Farms products online or in stores both here in Nashville and across the country. Your Thistle Farms and Thistle Stop Cafe purchases directly benefit the women of the Magdalene program, allowing them to learn valuable job skills and be a part of a community of healing.

White’s Mercantile

Owner Holly Williams describes White’s Mercantile as a “general store for the modern-day tastemaker.” We completely agree! Her deep roots into Nashville coupled with her adventures on the road have led her to find an eclectic set of goods to stock the store. Wander through White’s and you’ll find Turkish-T towels and delicate dishes for your kitchen, fun prints to decorate your walls, toys and treats for your pup, and more than a few treats you’ll want to take home for yourself.

Sunflower Cafe

Sunflower Vegetarian Cafe is a standout vegan and vegetarian spot in Berry Hill. Look for the bright yellow building on Azalea Place – when you see the wooden sunflowers that adorn the front lawn, you’ll know you’re in the right place! Check out their house-made veggie burger – it’s packed with flavor and comes with a variety of topping and presentation options. Go traditional with a whole wheat bun, or try it in wrap or bowl form (with gluten-free options available!).
