Lyndi’s pies in the making

Lyndi Stein of Littlest Love Bakery makes the kind of sweet treats that put smiles on our faces. You can taste the love and care she puts into each of her creations. We were lucky enough to get our hands on one of her PB&J donuts – talk about tasty! Read on to find out how you can get your hands on some of her yummy treats.

Follow Littlest Love on Instagram or take a look at Littlest Love’s photo gallery, and we’re sure your mouth will water and your sweet tooth will be craving a bite (er… bites!) of her baked creations.

From hand pies to cupcakes to macaroons, Lyndi knows how to make baked perfection. We recently asked her a few questions about her company – here’s what she had to say:

How did you get interested in baking?

When I quit my job and moved to New Orleans in 2010, I was looking for a sense of purpose, and I wanted that purpose to be creative and exciting. I attempted pumpkin chocolate chip cookies on a whim and they were okay, but they tasted more like bread. The engineer in me had to learn what every ingredient’s role was until I understood how to make the cookies soft, spicy and chewy like I had envisioned. I was instantly hooked to the creativity and science behind baking, and seeing people smile and laugh while enjoying one of my creations was literally the icing on the cake.

What is your favorite sweet treat in Nashville? Favorite recipe to bake?

My favorite sweet treat in Nashville is anything off the dessert menu at City House. Rebekah Turshen is an evil genius. I’m also pretty addicted to the strawberry cupcake at Cupcake Collection – that frosting!! My favorite recipe to bake is my banana cake with avocado frosting. It’s just so green and beautiful (and delicious) – I love seeing those naturally bright colors piped onto cake!

Where do you find inspiration for new ideas and flavor combinations?

New ideas and flavor combinations are my favorite part of baking. I have a friend in NYC that owns a jewelry business, and she and I talk and brainstorm about our businesses to each other constantly. We come to each other with seedling ideas, and we spitfire crazy idea after crazy idea until we solidify something and feel so excited about it that we’re laughing like little kids. I think she’s my spirit animal.

What do you love most about Nashville?

I love Nashville’s spirit. Can you think of another place on this planet that has this kind of creativity, energy and community support? It’s buzzing with people who care, who take chances, who design their life instead of letting someone else do that for them. It’s inspiring! Not to mention we have Hattie B’s, so there’s that.

What’s next for Littlest Love Bakery?

I’m starting to put feelers out there for a brick and mortar. I’m really hoping to provide Nashville with a place to relax and enjoy dessert into the late hours. In the meantime, I’m going to start selling cookies and hand pies around town – farmer’s markets and retail shops. I’ll have selling locations and details on my website soon!
