Parnassus Books

Parnassus Books is a local gem for book lovers of all ages. After most major bookstores closed their doors in Nashville, co-owners Ann Patchett (an accomplished author with 6 novels under her belt) and Karen Hayes (a veteran in the publishing industry) set out to bring back the small, personalized bookstores that they grew up in. Parnassus Books was born.

parnassus 2In just a few short years, the duo has created a warm, inviting space for gathering, sharing, and learning for writers and readers.

This independent bookstore in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood boasts an impressive collection of fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. Peruse the aisles and find books on any topic you could imagine, from best-selling thrillers to cookbooks to memoirs and everything in between.

As a major supporter of writers here in Nashville, the bookstore also houses an extensive section dedicated to local authors. The bookstore has friendly employees with tons of reading recommendations – don’t hesitate to ask for ideas when you visit. You can also check out their website for each staff member’s personal recommendations.

parnassus 3Parnassus hosts events each week, including book signings, book clubs, and panel discussions. They even host a book club that meets three times a month to discuss current favorites. Every Saturday, take the family to the bookstore and enjoy stories, music, and more with Saturday Storytime. Can’t make an event with an author you love? You can purchase the book online, and Parnassus will get it signed for you!

Next time you’re looking for a good read to cozy up with on a rainy day, visit Parnassus Books and fall in love with reading all over again. Don’t forget to give their friendly shop dogs a belly rub next time you visit!
